Leading in Uncertain Times

Shackleton Leadership Day (Download as PDF)

Join us for a day of discovery on how to lead into unknown territory focusing on your own leadership styles as well as  an exploration of those used by Ernest Shackleton. In 2010 no-one is yet clear about the shape that future services and organisations need to take in the face of social and economic uncertainty. What ever happens you as a leader will  need courage and flexibility.

On this workshop you will work with Catherine Doherty and Richard Youell to uncover how different styles of leadership not only served Shackleton well in surviving his challenges but also how his flexibility between leadership styles was one of his greatest assets. We work all day with film clips and experiential exercises. Those who come on this course will leave having had an experience of stretching their own leadership styles to better equip them for their own journeys ahead.

You will understand by the end of the day how you can take on the beliefs and approaches of other leaders to supplement your own flexibility to get the followers in your organisation, team or market to understand and sign up to your ideas.

Specifically you will cover on the course...

  • Seven Styles of leadership: finding your own
  • Defining a leadership based outcome you want to achieve
  • Working through real work scenarios to generate flexible responses so you can take back a completed piece of  thinking
  • How beliefs drive behaviours and outcomes
  • How to get yourself in the right frame of mind when faced with unknown challenges

Who will benefit from this day?
If you are already a leader, a director or senior manager within your organisation then this day will help you to  understand how one of the great leaders in history succeeded under extreme adversity and how these lessons can be applied to develop the leaders for the 21st Century.
